Concert Tee Series: One of my Favorite Bands, Dawes

11th December 2018

Music has always been a constant in my life. Whether it’s background noise breaking up silence and my frenzied thoughts, or just for pure joy, it is ALWAYS playing. This also explains why live shows are one of my favorite things to attend and basically why Nashville is still my favorite city. I didn’t realize how spoiled I would be when I moved here. I really enjoy supporting artists who inspire me and my favorite way to do this is with a good concert tee because I also love wearing a memory. This concert tee series is dedicated to some of my favorite artists, and some of my favorite looks, because there isn’t anything much better than dressing up a concert tee.

Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes, is responsible for writing some of my favorite songs, sparking my soul and healing and deepening my heartbreak. Listening to Dawes also inspires me to be a stronger writer. Something I noticed early on at my first Dawes show, which I still appreciate, is their genuine performance every single time. I have seen them live more than any other artist/band and each time I leave with a cherished memory (and a new tee!)

It Feels Like Home

Family is the most important thing to me. Along with my family comes many traditions, which are also important to me. When I was younger, I didn’t appreciate any of this the way I do now, and I know this comes with maturity, but I am happy to realize this now. I have also realized every time my mother said, “at the end of the day, family is all you have,” she really was right. One newer tradition we have started is traveling as a family to attend a Dallas Cowboys football game in October.

I always look forward to this trip and watching the Cowboys play as a family, not only because I can wear my Dan Bailey jersey and sequined Dallas Cowboys hat, but also because it always takes me back to when we would gather around our living room television and cheer for these strangers in silver and navy shiny pants that I felt like I knew. Emmitt Smith will always hold a special place in my heart for this reason.

This is what They’re for

8th September 2014

NY

Some things in my life have a very specific purpose. These few things, happen to be my favorite things. Today, I instantly grabbed my favorite flannel because its purpose is to wear it over just about any other piece of clothing I own, especially in Fall. It is my favorite, because it is comforting. Also topping my list of favorites are my people. My family.

My family can read me like their favorite book. They know when I am having a good day from a bad day, and even when I think I have a believable poker face, they prove me wrong. Something they are terrible at though, is leaving me alone, but I secretly love this about each of them. No matter what, they are always there to build me up, support me, crowd my space (in the best way) and love me unconditionally. This is what they’re for.

All in the Family

We can make choices and decisions every single day. One thing, we are never able to choose is the family we come from. Today, I was able to spend a decent amount of time with family that I really don’t see too often. Some of them live here in Indiana, just a few miles away from me, others traveled from West Virginia to visit Indiana for a few days. I really find it humorous how versatile people from the same family can be, but at the same time, so happy to know that I am related to such unique people, who I hope think the same thing when they look at me.

I started today with a family photo shoot for my cousins. We had so much fun, especially with all the children (all under 4-years-old). To my surprise, they all cooperated despite the beaming heat. The best part about the photo shoot was how everyone worked together when it was only the children being photographed. This took an unbelievable amount of communication from everyone. In the beginning, because we are family and comfortable with each other, it was mostly a lot of screaming from everyone, and that didn’t work to anyone’s benefit. We took a moment, calmed everyones’ voices and right away, things went way smoother, even after being surprised by two large breed dogs that weren’t on leashes. At the end of the shoot, we were all laughing about everything that had happened that afternoon from being chased out of the woods by two dogs and slipping off the pier and almost crashing into the lake. Sure, you could laugh with total strangers about these events, but it was so much better with family.
