Track Meets and Track Pants

13th May 2014

post58

Today marked the first track meet for the Washington Hornets, and also the first day I have decided to stay in “sweats.” I am not one to really dress in “comfy” clothes all day, but with a day full of errands and sporting events, it only seemed appropriate. But being me, I had to put my own style into my look today.

Instead of opting for the most ridiculously comfortable sweatpants on the planet (yes, I’m talking about mens oversized Hanes pants, and yes even the ones with the cuffed bottom) I chose to wear my yoga pants. These are super simple to dress up because 1. they are usually plain and 2. all you need is a jacket to really make the look complete. I chose to wear my favorite jacket from Pacsun. It is super simple and the leather sleeve really gives the entire outfit more of an edgy look.

Happy Easter!

13th May 2014

post57

There are so many reasons to love Easter. 1. Typically, you are always surrounded by your family, 2. It’s a day to celebrate Jesus, and 3. It’s definitely a day to show off some style.

This year, I decided to splurge a little bit. From my previous posts, I have talked about how to budget, where to find sales and how to shop clearance. I still hold to all of that, but sometimes you deserve to spoil yourself. Sometimes you find a piece that you love, and if you do I think you just need to splurge a little and buy it. Eventually, you will find a purpose for it or an event to wear it to. So, just do it. I’m not saying go crazy and buy the next pair of Louboutins you see, but just be realistic within your means, and do NOT feel guilty about it.

A Good Friday, Indeed!

13th May 2014

post56

Today was THE day. The day I have been waiting for since about…well, last June. I was finally able to bring my shorts out! It was a little on the chilly side, but I wasn’t about to let that stop me! Along with the beautiful we day we had, today is also, Good Friday. I’m not sure what you believe, or if this day has any significance to you, but it does for me. Here is great article if you want a little more explanation. Today, I am just reminded to be so thankful for everything I have, and why. We do have an awesome God, and I know I take that for granted, so this is one relationship I am going to continue working on.

With this beautiful weather, I felt inspired by the sixties. This is my absolute FAVORITE decade for fashion. Here is another great article highlighting some of my favorite styles. The sixties really introduced some of my favorite trends that are being brought back today. I love the patterns, the colors (yes, even that terrifically awful mustard yellow) and just the freedom to express yourself through fashion. I am ecstatic to see all these styles come back.

Thanks for the memories

13th May 2014

post55

This has been one interesting week to say the least, and when I say interesting, I mean that in the best way possible. I have let a few people go in my life over the past couple of months. Some were necessary, some were not, but regardless, none of it was simple. The whole time I have been wondering if any of this was a mistake, but I try to live my life without regrets. Of course, I wish in all cases, things were said differently, but at the end of the day, I have come to realize it happened. It was. It’s time to move on, but if there was one final thing I could say to the few that aren’t a part of my life anymore, it would simply be: Thanks for the memories. Good/bad/funny/awful/heartbreaking/loving, we did share something.

It’s right, just not RIGHT now.

13th May 2014

post54

Today started with one of my best friend’s bridal shower. It was incredibly fun and the whole wedding process is just exciting. So, congrats Ashley!

Moving on, today I learned an incredibly valuable lesson. You must find the good in every single situation you face. I know this seems a tad cliche, but it’s true. I know first hand that life does not always go according to your plan, but with that, I have learned you need to keep pushing for what you really want. I refuse to settle in any aspect of my life and the one thing that keeps me going is having faith and knowing it will all work out how it’s meant to be.

I have found that finding the good and being the positive when it seems there isn’t at all helps to conquer the negativity. Yes, it can be difficult being the better person, but having this mentality will lead your farther and make you feel better at the end of the day. And honestly, who wants to be miserable? I’m not saying you need to ecstatic all day, but if you’re upset about something, find something to make you smile. This leads me to my outfit today.

Denim on Denim on Denim

13th May 2014

post53

Today, I felt a little inspired after seeing a Teen Vogue article for a spring trend that I believe will be around long after the season has passed (if it ever fully gets here!) Today I decided to try denim on denim. There are different ways to pull of this look but I decided to go with black denim pants paired with a denim shirt. This gives a polished look, and almost is a little like color blocking if you decide to match your pants to your undershirt like I chose to do with mine. This look is fun because it is really simple and easy to dress up with accessories.

Breaking the BIG rule

13th May 2014

post52

Today, I am breaking a fashion rule, one that you really need to be careful with. We have all seen the terrible memes, but if done correctly, you can do this. You CAN wear leggings as pants. Take caution, because there is a right way to do this.

First, if you’re going to try to pull this look off, I think its better if the leggings are printed because it gives the leggings more of “pant look” versus just the typical “yoga style.” Next is probably the most important part…wear a shirt that is LONG in the back because otherwise, it’s just not an attractive look on anyone. Because leggings do not typically have back pockets either, this is another reason longer shirts are a must when trying to wear these as pants. I also like to wear longer sweaters to pull this look off.

One of the guys

13th May 2014

post51

Well, they were right we did end getting a TON of snow…like 8 inches. It was absolutely stunning to look at, and it wasn’t terribly cold, so it really wasn’t that miserable! But today, was perfect to be just “one of the guys.”

Let’s be real, who doesn’t love wearing their boyfriend’s sweats? Fortunately, because I do not have a boyfriend, I do have a brother I choose to steal from instead. My flannel shirt today belongs to my brother, but I noticed it hanging in his closet a while ago, and never have seen him in it, so I decided to make it mine and it is now one of my favorite pieces. He’s a lot taller than me, so it makes for a really comfortable look. This is the kind of comfortable look I go for versus sweats, because you can really make this look more fashionable, and honestly, sweats just aren’t a look I choose. Plus, adding my leather leggings really pulls the look together and gives a more “girlie” feel.

Keep it Trendy!

13th May 2014

post50

Another beautiful day it has been, and then I remember we are suppose to be getting 1-3 inches of snow… so why not take advantage of this weather while we have it?

Today I want to talk about trends. Trends can be tricky because you never really know how long they will last (ie hair feathers, I do really miss those) but today I am wearing three different trends that I am determined to keep current because I love all three of them.

New Season, New Love

13th May 2014

post49

Ok, so I know today is not technically Spring, but it feels like it, so I’m going with it. Just knowing I could be outside all day today without a jacket is uplifting. That said, it’s a new season, and time for a new love. These past couple of months have been anything but easy for me. There’s been the classic combination of heartbreak, doubt and loneliness, I mean honestly, this is what our twenties are for right? But today, I am dedicating this season to find love again, starting with most importantly, loving myself.

I am still trying to figure out what to do with my life, and I am young enough to make mistakes and still be OK. This is somewhat reassuring. Knowing there are so many opportunities in this world has made me grateful that I am continuing this journey of self-discovery by myself, and I mean, don’t get me wrong, I am fully aware it will be a lonely life for some time, but it will be worth it in the end. Thankfully, I have the best support system anyone could ask for (and I know everyone says this, but truly, thank you to my family and friends for being my rock and for your continued support on this crazy ride).
