Blue, with a hint of ‘Violet’

Sometimes, something you hear leaves an impression, sometimes it’s something you see and other times, it’s the one thing you don’t see that leaves the strongest feeling.

This past weekend was jam packed with different events. One of my best friends was visiting from out of town and I really wanted her to have a good time. Warsaw isn’t the most thrilling of places, so I decided we would travel to Fort Wayne to watch the play, “Violet.” Other than being friends with one of the actors, we didn’t know much about this play, so we went in pretty blind sighted but left with a mix of emotions (all wonderful) and singing the songs the entire 45 miles back home. We laughed, cried and even at one point truly wanted Violet to end up with the jerk because he started to really show his sweet side. I don’t want to give too much away, but this is a show for everyone to see.

A little summary; Violet is struck accidentally by an axe when she is younger and it leaves a scar across her face. As she grows older she seeks to be healed and travels to Oklahoma with high hopes of returning back home with a new face. Along the way, she meets several people who teach her some important lessons.

After watching ‘Violet’, it really made me think about internal beauty versus external beauty. At the end of her journey, Violet finds love with someone who loves her for the person she is, and not for the person she looks like. This is how life should be. The most valuable people in our lives, will not care what we look like on the outside, but it’s who we are on the inside that is the most important.

I was reminded of this today when I went to visit my nephews. I had just gotten out of the shower and threw my wet, tangly hair on top of my head, threw on an old t-shirt with plain black soffee shorts and no make-up. As I was leaving their house, my pappy was getting ready to leave for a car show in downtown Warsaw. As he was walking to his car, he asked if I wanted to go sit with him at the car show with all of his buddies. I looked at him and laughed and said, “You really want to take me looking like this?”

He just smiled and said, “Well ya, why would I care about any of that.”

I didn’t go, but knowing he wanted me to regardless of looking like a total mess, meant the world to me. It really is what is on the inside that matters most, but that is something you can’t see, so in order to find this, you must get to know everyone for the person they are and not just base everything on what you see on the outside.

Go see ‘Violet’ you will not be sorry.

And if you have seen it, I’m going to leave you with, because it is STILL stuck in my head, and now hopefully yours.
