I have fully accepted being the “voice of reason” in my group of friends. Though, knowing this almost makes me question their sanity. It is comforting talking them through their issues because we all relate in one way or another, and once again, I am reminded that no one has life figured out, but it’s so much more difficult accepting that when things aren’t going as we hoped.
Recently, through various hours of conversation, dinners and even face timing, we have all managed to feel unwanted in one aspect. Everyone has their own issues, whether that is job related, personal relationships, friendships and life in general, we are all experiencing this in our own way. Personally, I know this completely sucks and I wouldn’t wish this empty feeling on even the rudest person. But, as we always close our conversations we each other, we are reminded that life does go on, even when it feels like it wont.
This is why I am so fortunate for my friends. I know I have made posts for them before, but I’d be lost without them. We had a dinner the other night with most of us in attendance as per usual. As we’re sitting around catching up on life, we were stuffing our faces with homemade tacos (thanks Megan) and passing around the most adorable babies while one of my favorite toddlers danced from room to room and serenaded all of us and informing us all about condensation. If we only focus on the negativity in our lives, it is so easy to dismiss everything beautiful happening right in front of us.
Witnessing the interactions my best friends’ children had with each other is so special and made me stop to think that all of us have truly lived a lifetime together. We have all experienced major milestones, heartbreak, death, love and anything else imaginable, but we were able to help each other through it all. We have disagreed, had countless arguments, so yes, I love being their voice of reason, and I love having them when I need some guidance, (or a new outfit, like this photo, thanks Skylar.) Sitting around the table with non stop conversations, I realized that when we are together, we are all always wanted.
