Tonight is my first time attending a country concert, unless you count Taylor Swift, but I do agree with that community…she’s really not country in my opinion. Nevertheless, I am pretty excited to see Jake Owen. Because I do not consider myself to be country in the slightest, I decided to put my own spin on this style.
To me, when I think of country, I think of plaids/flannels, jean jackets and cowboy boots. So, I decided to wear a dress with a plaid jacket. A note to everyone out there reading this, this is the first time I have ever worn this jacket in the two years I have had it. It really is cute, I just put it my closet and kind of forgot about it but it is perfect for tonight…so don’t throw pieces out because you haven’t seen them in a while.
My favorite part of this look are my shoes. I actually made them myself (tutorial is at the bottom of this post). These shoes are a fun a way to really show my style (no offense to cowboy boots, they really are fashionable, they just aren’t my favorite.)
My point for this blog today is to always stay true to yourself. Country music (and fashion) would not typically be my first choice, but it has been fun branching out and embracing this style because it is pretty different than my everyday look. Take risks, but keep your style because that makes you, you. I know it seems easier to just try to fit in with everyone else, but how exciting is that really…yep, not at all. Have fun with a different style, but keep your personal touch.
Steal my look: Dress: Meijer ($12) Plaid Jacket: Forever 21 ($13) Necklace: Forever 21 ($5) Shoes: Goodwill DIY: ($4.40)
SHOE TUTORIAL:
What you need:
-shoes (I bought my flats from Goodwill (they are currently $4.40)
-Glitter (I bought extra fine from Meijer for $3.99)
-Mod Podge (can be found at most retail stores)
-Paint brushes
Step 1: Line a bowl with a aluminum foil (we are mixing mod podge and glitter so it will be messy without a linter)
Step 2: Create the color you want: I used mainly gold glitter with a hint of silver because I wanted t tone down the gold a little bit.
Step 3: Add about a tablespoon of mod podge to the glitter (You want the consistency to be similar to paint, if it’s too thin, just add a little more glitter. I also taped off my shoes with painter’s tape to keep the toes of my shoes black.
Step 4: “Paint” your shoes with the mixture. Be cautious of clumps. I waited about 15 min. in between my coats. You may need up to 3 coats depending on your shoe style.
Step 5: “Paint” your shoes with ONLY mod podge to create a seal over the entire shoe. (I used two coats of this again, and waited 15 min. in between coats.)
ROCK THEM.
